Which schema types Google actually uses for rich results

By Joel Maldonado, Neural Command, LLC · Last reviewed 21 October 2026

As of October 2026, Google's search gallery lists 25 structured data features, including Article, Breadcrumb, Event, Local business, Organization, Product, Review snippet, Software app and Video. FAQ rich results stopped showing on 7 May 2026, How-to rich results were removed in 2023, and the sitelinks search box was retired in 2024. Service, Person and WebPage have no rich result of their own.

Common types with no rich result

These are still useful for describing your business and connecting your markup, but Google has no dedicated feature for them:

Rules that apply to every feature

From Google's general structured data guidelines:

And from the review snippet guidelines: a business's own pages using LocalBusiness or Organization markup are not eligible for review stars when the business controls the reviews about itself, and fake or undisclosed incentivized reviews are not allowed.

Use the generator to write markup for the supported types most businesses need, and the validator to check it. Schema Institute has a plain-English page for each common type.

Frequently asked questions

Does Google still show FAQ rich results?
No. Google deprecated the FAQ rich result in May 2026, saying it would no longer appear in Google Search starting 7 May 2026, and removed the documentation in June 2026.
Should I remove FAQPage or HowTo markup?
You don't have to. When Google limited these features in 2023 it said unused structured data does not cause problems for Search, but it also has no visible effect. Keep it only if it accurately describes visible content.
Is markup without a rich result useless?
Not necessarily. Google uses structured data to understand page content, and Organization markup can influence the logo and details Google shows. But no markup guarantees a rich result.
